Everyone's Meal: Breakfast Edition

Ono Karori

The exhibition by Haiiro Ookami + Flower Shop Nishibeppu Shoten began on February 9th .
The venue is bustling with customers every day, and it is wonderful to see everyone's eyes shining in front of the lights in the darkness.
Now, Mr. Sato and Mr. Nishibeppu from the Yellow Wolf + Flower Shop Nishibeppu Shoten are very enthusiastic about the exhibition.
He stayed at my house in Fukuoka for three days prior to the exhibition , and we spent every day happily and joyfully sleeping and eating together under the same roof.
Whenever an artist is in the gallery, he or she stays at our house.
Like the auntie at my boarding house, I worked hard to make meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and prepared foods to be preserved and delicious even when cold.
I'm learning by trial and error with a cookbook in hand.
My breakfast is always rice balls and miso soup.
The ingredients this time include mentaiko, a Fukuoka specialty, and salmon rice balls wrapped in grated kelp instead of nori seaweed.
It is cooked in a waterless pot and the freshly cooked, hot rice is squeezed into the palm of one's hand.
Onigiri is a great dish for small children.
And my current fad: chicken stock miso soup.
Recently, I've been making chicken breast for breakfast for my husband, who goes to the gym early in the morning.
The dashi stock from that time goes really well with the thick miso I made last year. I like to add lots of root vegetables to make a pork soup-style dish.
To be honest, now that I have three children, there are days when I feel like cooking meals every day is a hassle.
At times like those, why do we feel happy just hearing our child say, "Thanks for making it, Mom," or our husband say, "Mmm, it's delicious!"
My family taught me that being able to cook a meal for someone else is a happy thing.
This weekend's exhibition events
“ Eriko Kamikaki Piano Concert and Hisayuki Nishibeppu Installation ”
Once again, everyone will come to my house together. It's fun to think about what to make while imagining their faces.
For those of you who have made reservations, please look forward to Sunday.
