Information on the 7th Anniversary "Utsuroi" Exhibition

September
As the sky gradually gets higher and the signs of autumn come into the air, Utsushiki will soon celebrate its seventh anniversary, fueled by our connections with you all.
As the years go by, the number of people and staff involved gradually increases, and we grow into a big family, building relationships in which we learn from each other.
For the seventh anniversary exhibition, we will be exhibiting Oda Yudai's first photo book "Utsuroi," as well as other events that highlight each artist's unique characteristics.
"Change"
Dates: September 3rd (Sat) - 18th (Sun)
Time: 13:00-18:00 Closed: Tuesdays and Wednesdays during the period Location: Utsushiki
Yudai Oda is a photographer and videographer. Born in Nogata, Fukuoka Prefecture in 1991. Since March 2020, he has been in charge of the video and photography for the gallery "Utsushiki." In order to convey the thoughts of the artists exhibiting at Utsushiki, he travels to the locations and conducts video interviews. Since July 2022, he has been recording the scenery of his family under the name "Oda Photo Studio."

That day I woke up in my car
The sunlight blocked by the mountains and the noisy cries of the cicadas soaked into my body.
My white shirt is so sweaty it sticks to my back and won't come off
If you walk outside with your vision blurred, you'll see cumulonimbus clouds rising silently in the distant sky.
Numerous beams of light shine clearly through the gaps between the trees swaying in the wind.
I hurried back to the car to get my camera.
When I turned around, he was gone
I listened once again to the cicadas' voices

"Live in the moment"
This time, we visited three families based in Wakayama, Kyoto, and Nagano, and photographed their lifestyles and craftsmanship.
The Kawai family live on the reclaimed mountaintop, the Sato family make clothes from natural fabrics, and the Ito family live in the forest and weave baskets.
Their lives overlap with the changing natural scenery.
I think that "change" can only be felt when the dots of a certain moment are connected to form a "line."
Even if you try to photograph this "change," of course all that will appear in the photograph is the present moment, a "point."
In addition, the photos in this article were taken during the summer from July 24th to August 5th, 2022, so there is no change with the seasons.
On the other hand, photographs always capture the "now" - the people, scenery, homes, climate, crafts, and artworks of the "now."
I believe that focusing on these countless "dots" is the first step to feeling change and living in the present.
Their lives make us keenly aware of the existence of "points."
Paintings and accessories made from soil and plants from the mountains, baskets made from bark and bamboo from felled trees. Materials derived from nature are never exactly the same.
In addition to creating art, the children are trying their hand at beekeeping and rice cultivation, living with animals, and weaving palm rope using methods they learned from villagers; the things they put into practice in their daily lives are increasing and changing every day.
They only get to see what they are feeling at the time, because they focus on what they are feeling and express it in their work and their lives.
Just like how dead winter branches sprout in spring and turn into fresh green leaves.
Their ever-changing "now" is beautiful.
At the same time, we will be holding an exhibition of accessories by Utsushiki Boss Yasuhide Ono, which has been requested for some time.
He advocates the pursuit of a lifestyle that combines the arts with culture, and is based on the idea of "farmer 2.0," as well as the pursuit of modern Japanese aesthetics and oriental values that have emerged since the days of wabi-sabi.
Using natural stones that she finds and selects herself, she creates jewelry using a variety of techniques and expressions.
The stones used are enveloped in light and no two are alike, making them unique.

We had two dinner parties with Mr. Ken Tanaka from the vegan organic cafe "panchavati"
We have begun celebrating the new scenery of our partner Hinako Tanaka <in good health>
Ayurvedic treatment by Hinako Tanaka Saint by Miho Ota Meal by Yuiko Takakura
A special time for each individual, with the treatments of three different therapists intertwined.
After adjusting the senses of sight (eyes), smell (nose), hearing (ears) and touch (skin) through Hina and Miho's songs, the sense of taste (mouth) is entrusted to Yuiko, and all five senses are in harmony.
Time for you to tune your senses for yourself
Please come and experience the time that Hina-san is spending at Amrita in Shizuoka, her base, starting this year, through Utsushiki
Hinako Tanaka While caring for her parents and dealing with her own physical and mental health issues, she began learning how to balance her mind and body, which led her to discover yoga and Ayurveda. She was deeply moved by the teachings of Ayurveda, which sees the human body as a microcosm and teaches that the mind, body, and even the soul should be healthy, and from 2006 she began studying under an Indian teacher as an intern every day for about two years, deepening her studies. In 2008, she opened the Ayurveda Salon "Amrita" next to her home.
Furthermore, knowing that food and the environment around you are important for maintaining a healthy mind and body, in March 2014 she opened the vegan organic cafe Panchavati with her late husband, Ken Tanaka. She began to spread awareness not only of body care but also of the goodness of this world through food, but closed the cafe in December 2020 due to her husband's illness. She now mainly provides Ayurvedic treatments at her home salon. "Just as fire and heat exist together and water and flow together, Ayurveda exists together with your inner essence. Charaka Samhita"
Miho Ota
Born in Tokyo in 1978. Moved by the hymns she encountered at the age of eight, she aspired to become a musician. She released two albums, Kyomei and Kikii, from the gallery Utsushiki in Fukuoka, but lost her voice temporarily due to thyroid cancer. This prompted her to decide to make choir her original focus of expression. She presides over the choir CANTUS. She also works as part of the classical music unit adagio. Her latest work is a duo album with classical guitarist Paniyolo, Sky and Flowers. She is a single mother with one son and one daughter. She is a prophet.
Yuji TakakuraI make meals using plants such as vegetables, grains, and fruits. I make simple food that barely uses the five pungent vegetables and is often seasoned only with salt and soy sauce. I want to deliver transparent food that will naturally blend into the body to the plate. Currently, I create the places and times I imagine, and sometimes think about food. I live my life creating what I imagine.
