In November 2021, Mr. and Mrs. Ota from "TANE" hosted a two-day dinner party to celebrate the Yamaka Design Studio/Ono Tomohiro exhibition.
Now in its third year since opening in front of the station in Beppu, Oita Prefecture, a city famous for its hot springs, the restaurant offers "something" to brighten up customers along with its delicious South Indian meals, with staff members known for their pleasant smiles and the presence of their beloved three-year-old son, Iwai-kun.
I was curious about the balance of that "something," and had a hunch that if Toyoshige (Toyo) or Misa (Misa) had been the only ones, that "something" probably would not have been born. This was my second time interviewing the couple.
In this two-part series, we will deliver to you the hours of twilight that passed in the blink of an eye, with the winter-like sunlight filtering through the window and the murmuring of the pet dog Ume. While warming yourself by the stove, take a look at the past and future of "TANE".
