Clothing called iai

Yasuhide Ono

Clothing from iai , which is active in Fukuchiyama, Kyoto, is displayed on the wall.
The other day, they traveled all the way from deep in the mountains of Kyoto, taking a long time to come all the way to Utsushiki.
I had heard about iai from acquaintances and knew about it through Instagram , but to my surprise, he himself came to bring some of his work.
The beautiful world of iai.
Before you say anything, I would like you to try it on.
The first thing that surprised me was that the maker, Iso, produces each garment individually using a sewing machine.
And one of the defining features of iai's clothing is the silhouette.
All iai's clothes are made using three-dimensional cutting, giving them a unique silhouette that is different from clothes made using regular patterns.
The back view is also beautiful.
Apparently, all of these beautiful dyeing colors are done by Iso himself.
The materials used are also natural, such as cotton, linen, silk and old cloth.
I wanted to know how iai's clothes are made and how they are able to create such a world, so I visited their atelier in Fukuchiyama, Kyoto on my way back from an exhibition in Niigata the other day.
A village with terraced rice fields surrounded by mountains and a population of 21 people with a calm atmosphere.
An ancient house with a thatched roof.
One of these was Mr. Isao's atelier.
The atelier was created by renovating an old house.
Mr. Isao's attention to detail can be seen everywhere, such as in the homemade hangers.
All of iai's clothing is created from this desk.
Although my stay was quite short, I was able to get a glimpse into Mr. Isao's life, and what I felt from our conversation was that the clothes he makes are made from his "everyday life."
Such an obvious phrase may seem like an obvious one, but it is a reflection of the life-sized "everyday life" of someone who chose this place, lives their daily life there, and interacts with the elderly people who live nearby.
Some of the works have already been sold, but we hope you will come and see iai's clothing.
Currently on display in the store are spring clothes.
We are expecting our summer clothes to arrive around mid-June, so please look forward to that as well.
An exhibition by iai is planned for November this year.
We may be the ones looking forward to it more than anyone else.
I want as many people as possible to experience the beautiful world of iai .
