Shoda x Kawai Arisa Couple Exhibition

Information on special exhibitions
The first exhibition of the year, appropriate for the warmer spring weather, will feature works by portrait artist Shoda and his wife, Arisa Kawai, who creates decorative items using natural objects.
Eda traveled to Laos prior to this exhibition, and Arisa will be trying dyeing works for the first time.
They are both artists whom I respect not only as artists but also as people.
The Atelier Gallery in Kyoto was one of the places that really shocked me.
In addition to the exhibition, there will also be a number of other events, such as Arisa creating dyed pictures using plants to accompany a live performance by Aoki Hayato, and portraits in the dark in front of a fire lit by Kawai Yuu.
As always, this is an exhibition that we hope many people will visit, so please come and see it.

On a spring evening, we will draw portraits in the light lit by Kawai Yu.
An expression, a presence standing in the darkness.
When you look at a fire, you see yourself reflected in the fire.
Is it the thoughts in their mind, or is it the person themselves?
Forever and ever.
An expression of scooping, as if walking into the depths of one's own self.
I draw while feeling the person reflected in the light.

Our world has seasons.
It shows us different worlds in spring, summer, autumn and winter.
And I feel that each of us experiences the seasons of spring, summer, autumn, and winter.
After the winter when many different forms of life hibernate, spring arrives and buds begin to sprout.
Right now, spring-like buds are blooming within me.
This time, together with musician Hayato Aoki, I hope to use the power of plants to depict the budding of spring.
I hope you can find the spring that is just around the corner.

Arisa Kawai
Born in 1982 in Hiroshima Prefecture.
In 2009, she began making accessories using plants on her own, and in 2010, six months later, she held her first solo exhibition.
After that, I started collecting not only plants, but also plants, driftwood, shells, minerals, etc. that I encounter in the sea and mountains.
While broadening the scope of his work to focus on natural materials, he has exhibited his work mainly in solo exhibitions and group exhibitions.
I want to create things that are necessary for me right now, regardless of genre.
This exhibition will also feature dyed works for the first time.
