Dyed in a million colors

萬の色に染む

At one sudden moment,
Sometimes you just want to capture the scenery in front of you as it is.
For example, the sun shines brightly as it heads towards the evening, as if exerting its last bit of strength.
Reflected in a flooded rice field.
After that, the clouds turn pink and the colors of night are washed away and blurred.
As you become more and more engrossed, it suddenly becomes dark.
The change in color seen in the brief change of scenery.
Even if you try to grasp the present moment with all your heart, the color that was there just a moment ago has completely disappeared.

Dyeing has played a role since ancient times as decoration, a sign of status,
Its role is to protect against insects, etc.
In each era, techniques have been developed that have various roles and accompany them.
Although there are individual differences, it seems that humans can distinguish far more colors than other animals.
Many of the colors in Japan are named after scenery or natural scenery.
I think the colors capture each moment of change.
Or perhaps he associated the scenery with the colors that were created.
That's what comes to mind.

At the COSMIC WONDER "Dream of White Light" exhibition held until last week,
We held an order event where customers could have eight carefully selected styles of white clothing dyed in the color of their choice.
There are 13 colors.
These were gathered together through the connections that COSMIC WONDER has built up.
Each color is unique to its creator, and is infused with the blessings of nature as well as the time and skill of the person who made it.
We pondered carefully, thinking about the stories behind the colors, and it was an enjoyable and educational experience.

A color you want close to you.
Some people prefer colors that give them a sense of security.
Some people try new colors they've never tried before.

Personally, I chose a color called Nirvana soil, which is a traditional dyeing craft from Amami Oshima.

The deciding factor is that when the deep, almost black color of the mud dye is illuminated by the setting sun,
The golden color that emerged was so pretty.
Unlike in the city, the colors may only be visible because natural light has a clear influence on the scenery.
Be sure to enjoy it in this way when you visit.

Upon further investigation into the ambiguous term Nirvana, I discovered that it is an old Sanskrit word referring to the state of having a fire extinguished.
The word Nirvana was used because when Buddha passed away, his death was like a candle flame quietly going out.
Fire represents earthly desires, a state in which the confusion of the mind that arises from human instincts has disappeared.

Following the words that were named,
It's fun to imagine what other things are layered over this color.
In the COSMIC WONDER collection,
Sometimes it is hard not to take note of the perceptions that are assigned to that color.
On the tags attached to each garment, the color image and design concept are written in beautiful, global words like a letter.
Please take a look at it once you receive it.

Here are some of the colors used in this exhibition:

What kind of image comes to mind when you hear the term "indigo dyeing"? Indigo is the color that represents the country and has been familiar to Japan since ancient times.

If you live near Tokyo, you can visit the Center of COSMIC WONDER, which will be the final stop of the "Dream of White Light" traveling exhibition.
You can see it from June 25th.

Utsushiki continues to stock a carefully selected selection of clothing.
The deep color of Sumi Yambaru Indigo is not found in the 13 colors in this exhibition.
It's a color you should definitely see in person.
Experience the rich presence of this piece, which seems to contain many different colors depending on the angle and movement, reminiscent of minerals.
