Something that exists far before words

言葉より遥か以前にあるもの

Even though it is still May, the rainy season has begun earlier than usual.

How are you all spending your days?

I interviewed woodworker Masami Tokuda and Juri Sumioka of the reservation-only restaurant Millet in Kyoto.

With each interview like this, my values, which are filled with worldly desires, gradually begin to change.

During the interview with the two of them, common topics naturally came up.

What he means is that in a society where technology is developing and becoming more convenient, the innate human ability to feel may be weakening.

They immediately search for words before they feel anything, and they tend to verbalize other people's words as if they were their own thoughts and experiences.

This is hard to hear for me as I immediately Googled it, but I think it's all deeply relevant.

If we trade convenience for our smartphones all the time and spend our days disconnected from nature, it may become harder to notice the subtleties of our emotions.

I feel this way so strongly because I am aware that over the past few years I have prioritized values based on rationalism.

Just as touching the soil can heal your soul, I want to cherish the feelings that exist before they are put into words.

The contents of the interview will be updated on the Utsushiki YouTube channel and on the " Dialogue " section of the website!

Additionally, pre-orders are now available for Ota Miho's new album "Kiki," due for release in June.

Miho's journey so far is infused into each song. Interview articles and music videos are also available, so please take a look.

The CD album will also come with a booklet written by Miho.

I hope you look forward to all of them.

Let's have a lot of learning this week too.
